Mahasweta Devi, an eminent activist Bengali writer and a Jnanapeeth Award winner is no more. Her sudden death on 28th July, 2016 has left a deep void on the Indian literary scene. She waged a relentless war against the establishment for the rights of the under privileged and marginalized communities of the Indian society. Besides her literary output, which includes novels, short stories, children’s literature etc., she contributed a number of journalistic pieces covering various aspects of the social and political issues of our society.

In honour of her great personality and as a tribute to her seminal work Bharatiya Pragna: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Indian Studies is planning to bring out a special issue. Besides literature the issue will also focus on various aspects of her work.  We invite contributions for this special number from our readers.

Word-limit:

Papers should be between ideally 3000-5000 words.
Book reviews should be between 1000-1200 words for single and/or double book reviews. Review articles should be above 2000 words with proper citations.

CFP: “Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance”

Akda: The Asian Journal of Literature, Culture, Performance is an international peer-reviewed journal that seeks to publish cutting-edge articles in the areas and intersections of Literary, Cultural, and Performance Studies. We especially welcome articles that will inaugurate new and dynamic directions for scholarly inquiry on the literary and cultural production of the Asian region. Further, in our commitment to diversity and to multicultural dialogue, we welcome contributions that may potentially be relevant to the concerns of the region from various national and cultural backgrounds. The journal is supported by a distinguished editorial board that represents the journal’s scholarly depth and geographic scope.

Akda is published biannually, in March and September, but will accept submissions year round. Submissions, which are assumed to be original, unpublished work, should range from 5,000 – 8,000 words (inclusive of notes) and should follow the MLA parenthetical documentation style. Authors should also include a title page with keywords, 200-word abstract, and a short bio note with their submission. The September issue is an open issue with no thematic preferences; the March issue will be thematically organized and will be edited by a recognized scholar in the field.

Akda also accepts submissions of fiction, poetry, plays, screenplays, and the essay, creative writing that bends or crosses generic boundaries, as well as literary book reviews. Submissions must be in, or translated into, English. Translated work must be submitted with the consent of both author and translator.
